Osprey Soars at Junior Nationals, Wins 100 fly
Linnea Mack stepped up when it mattered most and had her best meet so far at the 2012 Speedo Winter Junior National Champs in Knoxville Tennessee. Linnea swam four events, posting lifetime bests in each.
Qualifying 2nd in the 50 free morning heats the first day of the meet with 22.84, Linnea came back fast in finals, besting the previous Junior National record and going 22.58 to finish second. On day two, Linnea qualified 6th for finals in the fly with a 54.24. That night Linnea shined brightly on the big stage, winning the 100 fly with a time of 53.02, dropping 1.5 seconds from her time coming into the meet. Later that evening, Linnea flashed her underwater speed to come from behind on the final lap of the 100 back, passing 3 swimmers and touching in an excellent finish top place 2nd with a time of 53.30, lopping 1.7 seconds off her best going into the meet. Then, on the final night, after qualifying 4th with a 50.26 in the 100 free, Linnea capped her performance with a 3rd place finish in a best time of 49.26.
Overall Linnea finished as the meets 2nd highest point scorer for women with 70 points, vaulting the Osprey into a 16 place finish out of the 44 teams that scored points amongst the women.
